Kari Epstein
Founder of Dream On, LLC Biography
In August of 2002, Kari Epstein was vacationing with family and friends
in Cape Cod. As they dined one evening at a restaurant on a pier, Kari
sat next to an open door reveling in the cool breeze. Suddenly, she
felt as though the room had heated up to about 1,000 degrees and was
drenched with sweat. When she asked, “Who turned the heat on?” a
friend at the table suggested that she’d just experienced
a hot flash. Kari vehemently denied it, explaining that she was just
43 years old.
Later that night, while playing a board game with her family,
the thought occurred to her: Someone should build a board game
for menopausal women. So she did.
The goals of her game?
- Have fun!
- Create a resource that invites a sense of camaraderie and a
gathering around the experience, rather than dealing with menopause
alone.
- Provide an outlet for discussion.
- Make it educational – while learning about menopause is only
a part of the game, it is an important part.
“Until recently, menopause was kept in the medicine cabinet,” says
Kari, “but society is much more open today — women
don’t
have to feel ashamed to talk about a natural life change. Hotflash!®
provides a new avenue for women to get a greater understanding
of menopause, while sharing the experience with others.”
In addition to creating Hotflash!®, Kari is an accomplished
cellist. Kari is a respected freelance musician throughout
metropolitan Denver and the front range. Kari was principal
cellist of the Mantovani Orchestra, touring extensively with
them in the U.S.
and abroad. In addition to
her musical career, Kari has also spent years incorporating her
love of music into customized glass art, by recreating musical
manuscripts in glass, an endeavor she calls “Classical Glass.” Kari's
work with “Classical Glass” appeared in Classic
fm magazine in the UK, and won the Art Space 2000 Award.
